Major Updates

Staff:
· Team Leader, Program Coordinator and Information and Communication Officer hired
· The regional staff, consisting of 1 Regional Manager, 1 Regional Assistant, 1 Community Liaison, 15 Readership promoters, hired in Barabise and Mahendranagar.

Scholarships:
· The scholarship distribution ceremonies carried out to award 76 students in Barabise (June 9, 2004) and 72 students in Mahendranagar (July 13, 2004)
· 74 scholarships distributed to students from 28 other districts
· The remaining 70 students will be awarded scholarships by the end of August

Library:
Book Processing:
· SEBS volunteers completed the books required for the pilot route for BB and MNR.
· 7 people hired to complete the book management process in Kathmandu for the remainder of the books to be sent to both regional centers.
Mobile Component:
· The pilot route initiated in Mahendranagar and expected to start in Barabise soon.

Management:
· Regional Construction Committees formed in Barabise and Mahendranagar to oversee construction details
· Regional Management Committees formed in Barabise and Mahendranagar to oversee management of the project with the view that they will take over the project's operations after January 2005.

Equipment Delivery:
· Photocopiers, computers and printers reached Barabise and Mahendranagar.
· Books for pilot routes delivered

Construction:
· The construction is expected to be completed by August in Mahendranagar and by September in Barabise

Training:
· The first training course on computer literacy started in Barabise in collaboration with Kantipur City College (KCC)
